Mercury Retrograde in Aquarius: re-calling all kindred spirits

Mercury stations Retrograde in Aquarius
[Retrograde station on Monday, January 28 @ 23 Aquarius 53]
[Direct station on Monday, February 18 @ 8 Aquarius 19]

Mercury is stationing Retrograde in the sign of Aquarius. Before reaching the end of Aquarius, Mercury will stop in its tracks, seem to stand still, and then move backwards. Of course this is all an optical illusion from our Earth viewpoint, and from the Sun’s perspective all planets only move in one direction. But this is Earth, and this is our perspective. And Mercury is about how we translate that perspective into ideas we can use, every day.

Many people have a fear of Retrogrades. And perhaps they should. Retrogrades can trip you up or set you back when you’re moving too fast or too compulsively. (This is due the Retrograding planet’s relationship to the Sun and the Earth.) But are we ever really backtracking? EVERY step you take is a step on YOUR path, whether or not it seems to be direct or retrograde from the perspective of others– or your own goals. To understand more about Retrogrades, read more about Retrograde cycles on artcharts.

Mercury makes 3 Retrograde stations every year, and they all last 3 weeks. Mercury is the 3rd sign, after all. This Mercury Retrograde station is entirely in the sign of Aquarius. The higher purpose of this Retrograde station in Aquarius is to help us to slow down and reassess our individual relationship to the group. How does your group identity effect you, personally and as a group? Every group has a dynamic. And when you become a member, you accept a role in that group dynamic. Do you like your identity in the group? Is it really you? Or is it who you need to be to be acceptable to other group members?

Mercury Retrograde in Aquarius can be the time when you realize just how important socializing can be. Besides having fun, connecting and conversing with others of like mind is a vital part of life, so vital it’s represented by one of the 12 signs, Aquarius. In the last newsletter I mentioned “sustainable realism” as a current theme [Jupiter and Pluto in Earth-sign Capricorn and ruler Saturn trine in Virgo.] Groups of friends and/or colleagues can nurture your ideas, adding new ideas and information that help your ideas to grow and flourish. There may be something you never thought of, or a new twist on an old idea. Plugging in to the group mind can cause a spark of creative energy. Together, we can find solutions we may not arrive at individually.

If you think there’s work to be done to improve the world, right now, and you would like to use your skills, talents, and information to connect and participate, there are things you can do. Whatever your opinions, you can find others of like mind and make your ideas and ideals into more than hopes and dreams. Over the next few weeks, we can all can start connecting, conversing, clarifying, and organizing our ideas so we can start doing something about them. All together now, or over the next 3 weeks.

Venus gets hot&heavy with Pluto

Steamy. Sexy. Hot and bothered. That’s Venus on top of Pluto.

Innuendos? You bet!

But when Venus and Pluto get together, and on the last degree of Sagittarius, which is where Pluto will until almost midnight (1/25/08), we are finally ready to let go of heavy relationship issues– the kind that keep you separated from true intimacy. The hidden issues, the kind you never speak about, the secret sensitivities that lurk deep inside and still rule your life, even if you consciously don’t think so. And while Venus is conjunct Pluto, your relationship issues may not be obvious. But if you’re “lucky”, or willing to be wise, the last degree of Sagittarius just might have a gift for you….

It’s almost time to get to work! If you want it, make it real. Be honest. Fantasies won’t work long-term. And right now, you can re-define your relationship to relationship. Step by step.

Step 1 — other people are NOT you. Having some healthy curiosity about The Other can make EVERY relationship more fun and less need-based. YOU have gifts to bring to every relationship. What are they? Don’t repress them by only looking for what YOU can GET. That makes it harder to actually receive anything, because you’re always looking for what more you can get, never really digesting what you’re getting, never looking for what you can give.

If you can’t give, you probably have a hard time accepting, because that puts you in a vulnerable position. You’ve already admitted you’re interested, and now it’s either a shared feeling or an opportunity for a power play. Who’s more interested, who’s in the better position, who’s the alphadog.

Conflicts will come up in any relationship, but if you see conflict as an opportunity to assert your power OVER, you miss out on an opportunity to turn a misunderstanding into a deeper understanding.

This is the wisdom of the last degree of Sagittarius.

Lauren
