Virgo Full Moon+Lunar Eclipse: the window to within
[Full Moon+Lunar Eclipse @ on Wednesday, February 20 @ 10:31 pm est]
[Moon at 1 Virgo 53 :: Sun at 1 Pisces 53 :: Nodes at 27 Virgo-Pisces 44]
The Lunar Eclipse Full Moon is in Virgo, with Sun opposing in Pisces.
At Eclipse/Full Moon time, the Virgo Moon is close to a conjunction with Saturn (exact overnight) and Vesta, the Asteroid, is exactly conjunct the Sun. [Vesta is also opposing the Moon and Saturn in Virgo.] By definition, the Nodes are close to the Sun and Moon at the Eclipse. At this TOTAL Lunar Eclipse, the South Node is conjunct the Moon, while the North Node is conjunct the Sun. [These are out-of-sign conjunctions/oppositions, since the Nodes are at 27 Aquarius-Leo and the Full Moon is at 2 Pisces-Virgo. They are only 4 degrees apart, yet in different signs.]
Reading astrology books and articles to research this Lunar Eclipse, the advise I found was to hold your breath and expect failure for months— especially if you have a planet or point at the Eclipse degree.
Why?
Because Saturn is conjunct the Eclipse Moon. And Saturn is the planet of fear. Saturn is also the Teacher, planet of disciplined learning.
So yes, if you hold your breath, you are likely to increase your fear and anxiety. Holding your breath or quick shallow breathing can instantly elevate AND sustain your stress level. However, breathing deeply, from your belly/abdomen, can release your stress, relax you, and put you in a calm frame of mind so you can think clearly, concentrate, and create plans and solutions.
Holding your breath to “get through this” is likely to increase your tension and anxiety. To keep your cool and even succeed, this Eclipse is the perfect time to learn how to use your breath for stress reduction. In Virgo, the things we dismiss as “simple” or ordinary may contain the key to our ongoing happiness and success. However, we may need to learn the basics, again. Take things like breathing, diet, and exercise seriously. Study them, practice them.
So while this Full Moon can highlight limitations, if astrology is doing its job and helping us to work towards greater awareness, this is also a time when discipline, focus, and commitment can help us learn and achieve. This is a time when we can take something seemingly basic and routine– like breathing– and learn the science of “life is breath”. We can look beyond automatic defaults that add to our stress. We can choose to learn and practice breathing techniques that can decrease stress and relax us– body, mind, and spirit. And when we breathe deeply into this Lunar Eclipse, we may receive karmic gifts that go beyond our highest hopes (Pluto trines the Eclipse, sextiles Vesta).
On this Lunar Eclipse, discipline can crossover into dedication.
The Goddess Asteroid Vesta is a star of this Lunar Eclipse. The Goddess Asteroids give us insights into the power of the feminine, challenging old beliefs that good women are “supposed” to be quiet. While women are speaking out, we have our first serious woman candidate for President, and the Spice Girls play Madison Square Garden, women are still trashing each other. Instead of being suspicious of “other women” as the enemy, how can we support each other’s diverse styles and endeavors? Instead of looking at this from a scarcity perspective, how can we pool resources and move beyond current frustrations?
Often, it is women who judge other women negatively. When we don’t feel strong and secure in our resources, we can project our frustration on others, hoping that will magically end the problem. It may seem to briefly. Yet the lack of support that strategy generates can be an underlying source of constant (but silent) stress, slowly depleting your good feelings and compromising your health, a Virgo issue.
At this Full Virgo Moon Eclipse, Vesta is exactly conjunct the Sun and opposing the Moon and Saturn. We need to balance our spiritual and physical needs. If you are only focused on spirit, and don’t take care of your physical needs, you may be forced to make a change so you remember the importance of your physical body and its needs. And if you are too materialistic, some event or feeling can awaken your need to reconnect to your spiritual source. How can you be a god/goddess/priest/priestess AND take care of business? Connecting with your spiritual self doesn’t mean getting out of other responsibilities, like earning a living and being responsible.
On this Lunar Eclipse in Virgo-Pisces conjunct Vesta, career needs can be pressing, and identity can mix with profession in a way that goes beyond a job. And that even goes beyond career. This is about a “calling”, a life purpose that you pursue with full dedication and focus. Not because the money or position gives you bling or priority status, but because it is what you know you came here to do.
This Eclipse isn’t just for (or against) women. Women and men can become more attracted to men and women who are following their spiritual path. Inspiration is sexy! And having the courage to go for your ideals can make you President.
Vesta conjunct the Sun and opposing the Eclipse and Saturn suggests a time to focus inward. If you want to make a difference that changes the world, you have to be clear within yourself first. Vesta conjunct the Sun shows a need to shine the light on whatever is preventing you from committing to your dreams. Instead of sidestepping the cobwebs so your ego feels secure, what’s really going on in the recesses where fear hides? Instead of living in that fear, how can you LOOK at the fear and let it evaporate. If fear is the opposite of love, how can you dissolve your ego’s control over your life and let love rule?
At this Lunar Eclipse, the power of our inspiration can be increased through our commitments. Dream. Then follow through.

On this Valentine’s Day 2008, Venus, planet of love, is having a tough time with Mars, planet of passion. It’s not that they’re not getting along, it’s just that they don’t have much in common right now. Being together is an uncomfortable stretch.
This is because the balance of give and take is off.
Love may not be reciprocated. The love you give may not be returned and the love you receive may not be from the source you intended. You may not trust someone who is being honest, while your desires lead you to someone who takes advantage, rips you off.
Why not?
Judgment. Gets you every time. It seems so natural in the moment. Of course you have to filter out most of the people you meet, there are just too many. Same thing with information. Too much. Yet, when you form opinions without understanding, it’s called judgment. What’s so bad about that?
Judgment creates resistance, and that creates friction and defensiveness which stifle your energy and distort your passions and desires. This makes natural self-expression more repressed, calculated, or inappropriate. Off.
Judgment creates negativity. You may not think so in the moment. In fact, you may feel elated, but it’s bloat and it starts to eat away, slowly. It creates insecurity, bad feelings, bad vibes. And that lowers your vibrations, which makes you feel less and less attractive, and less likely to attract any of the things you want and know you deserve.
On this Valentine’s Day, with Venus and Mars forming an inconjunct aspect (150 degrees), judgment can throw you off. The love you attract may NOT be the love you desire, while the love you desire may not be what you get. This can mean inappropriate come-ons and rejected offers. You can be obsessed with a desire, or you may not care about someone who feels passionately towards you. You may trust the wrong person, selling yourself short. And you may mistrust the one who really does value you. Give and take are not in balance.
To heal and re-connect to your source of LOVE, think about these questions:
What are you expecting? What are you giving? Are you willing to try to understand? Do you really care or are you obsessed with trying to get something? Are you willing to work through something, or do you want to conquer? Is it your ego or your heart?
Finding your true answers can get your vibes back into the positive love zone and help you to start connecting to love that feels good.
Happy Valentine’s Day,
Lauren

[ArtCharts] Inspired Astrology Newsletter: Aquarius Full Moon+Solar Eclipse

Aquarius New Moon+Solar Eclipse: backwards or forwards?
[New Moon+Solar Eclipse @ on Wednesday, February 6 @ 10:45 pm est]
On this Solar Eclipse and New Moon in Aquarius that is also Ash Wednesday, the Chinese Lunar New Year of the industrious Rat, and the day after Fat and Super Tuesday, the question is: are you going backwards or forwards? Because you can’t stay here.
The seed is planted. How it grows depends on your focus. If you KNOW it will grow, your focus is on growing. If you’re not sure, your focus is not strong and it may not grow.
How do we maintain our focus? Especially with SO MUCH information at our fingertips?
The Solar Eclipse is conjunct Mercury (and in the Mercury decanate of Aquarius), so there is a focus on new ideas and communication. Yet, due to the Eclipse, actually connecting can be cut off before it begins. You may want to communicate, but there are just too many things going on to maintain the focus.
Aquarius is a thinking sign that is more abstract than practical. We can care about what happens to society, but it can be difficult to feel for individuals. During Aquarius, we can be more excited about sharing information than acquiring more things. In fact, Aquarius prefers that you streamline your lifestyle. Aquarius remembers that all that stuff needs maintenance, which leads to more stuff.
Backwards OR forwards can be an appropriate response at time of transition. Aquarius is the sign of change and there is a stellium (3 planets of more) in Aquarius — Chiron, Mercury, Sun, Moon, Neptune, Vesta, and North Node). Mercury is Retrograde in Aquarius and conjunct the New Moon/Eclipse– AND — and this is the key to unlock the potential of the Eclipse — the Sun-Moon-Mercury conjunction is at the Venus-Uranus midpoint (Venus and Uranus are also sextile!) AND Uranus rules the Aquarius Solar Eclipse. This Eclipse can be a wide-open window of intuition — if you’re open to love and not shut down by fear and suspicion. It’s time to re-connect with the Age of Aquarius. It’s not just a song from the 60s, it’s a transition we are living through right now as we slowly move from the age of Pisces into Aquarius.
Yet transitions are transitions because they are periods of time when going back no longer works, but the future is not clear either. So you keep going back and forth until a path becomes more clear. Yet, it is by accepting this unclear period of unknown possibilities that we can be open to change, make unexpected progress, and wind up manifesting even more than our wildest imagination could have dreamed for us!
From the Sun’s perspective (Heliocentric astrology), there are no retrogrades. Retrogrades are optical illusions from the Earth’s perspective. Only the planets make retrograde stations, the Sun and the Moon are never retrograde. And on a soul, or solar level, there is no going backwards. Despite the labeling or judgments of society, you are always progressing towards your highest spiritual evolution. Even if– from the perspective of others on Earth, you seem to be going backwards. And at this Aquarius Eclipse, it is time for the entire society to start moving forward.
Since the Solar Eclipse in Aquarius is conjunct Mercury Retrograde, and the Eclipse is in the Mercury-ruled decanate of Aquarius (the Gemini decanate of Aquarius, degrees 10-20), this is an opportunity to change the way you think. If we become what we think, this Solar Eclipse contains the potential to become more aware of how we think so we can change the way we think and thereby the way we experience life. As we start to appreciate our Selves and the gifts we are here to learn and share, we can become fulfilled and functional contributors to the greater social network.
Aquarius is the sign of groups. Mercury Retrograde in Aquarius is the time to take another look at group dynamics. How do you participate? Do you show up? Do you share? Do you listen? Do others listen to you? Is the information you’re sharing true, caring, kind, necessary? Many of us get stressed listening to different opinions and insert our opinions at every opportunity. Are you constantly trying to get your plug in, or are you really listening and responding to what the others are saying? Not listening is a way to (attempt to) control others and assert your own ego. It’s really from the fear that you will be overtaken if you listen. Or that you will be drained, so you keep talking to prevent others from getting a word in. Yet, this makes working in a group situation into a constant conflict instead of an opportunity to find mutual solutions to large-scale problems.
The connection of Venus-Uranus to the Sun-Moon-Mercury conjunction highlights the theme of compassionate detachment. Caring but not clinging. The feeling we need to fix each other leads to attachment, judgment, and remaining stuck. What if you could care, yet maintain a healthy boundary between you and your friends? This Solar Eclipse/New Moon shows a strong connection between friends and security. Friends and group participation can give us a feeling of security. Sometimes, trying to step in and fix “it” denies the other person access to their own inner resources. So you spend you time feeling overwhelmed by their dilemmas, while they continue to have their ongoing dilemmas and every perspective or solution you offer is wrong. Since you can’t force others to change or feel good, all that really matters is that you feel clear.
What can you DO to create change. First in your own life. Then in the community. This Eclipse is an opportunity to walk into the future. Instead of remaining fixed in the past– take a plunge into NOW. How can you join with others to create a spiritual awakening? This Eclipse is a call to take notice of the Earth– as a group. We may need to sacrifice some material luxury for the well-being of our planet. And this can be a deal breaker for many of us who think we can only take because we don’t realize the valuable gifts we have to share. So on this Eclipse, it is uncertain which direction we will pick, old and seemingly safe. Or the new paradigm and uncertainty as we forge a new group spirituality. Surely an appropriate question for Aquarius.
