For your blindspot: the Mercury-Saturn-Neptune inconjunct: the dream lives….

After sending the last newsletter yesterday, most of the responses I received were from Pisces. And this morning we learned Senator Kennedy, a larger-than-life Pisces, had passed.

So what is up with Pisces? They seem to need some guidance right now. What is it about Pisces that people don’t quite get? Simple. Pisces sees the higher vision, the perfected ideal. For many of us, that feels insulting. We’re trying our best, yet Pisces see something better. There’s a timely message in that! Saturn is approaching a quincunx (150 degree inconjunct angle) to Retrograde Neptune, the ruler of Pisces. Saturn-Neptune inconjunct on September 12 (then May 2, 2010 and June 28, 2010)

With the influx of planets from mutable to cardinal signs, and the focus on Mercury at the center of a T-Square as it moves into Libra, we are in a rush to get our point across, to empower our positions, to insure that we exert our power and influence– before we know what we are saying. Something is missing. Something we need to see but can’t because it’s in our blindspot. And while that something may not be something we can hold and own, its importance is equal to our physical treasures. We all have dreams and ideals. We can call them illusions. We can say that since you can’t hold a dream, it’s not important, child’s play, nothing to focus on, unless you’re a silly fool. Yet, our dreams guide us, inform our actions, give us direction. Without a dream, our lives would just be a series of unconnected, meaningless events.

Mercury recently made a quincunx to Neptune (and will 2 more times as Mercury Retrogrades), and Jupiter is approaching a quincunx to Neptune. The aspect perfects on September 12; however, this outer planet aspect can be felt for weeks ahead and after.

The Mercury-Neptune quincunx will repeat twice more as Mercury stations Retrograde and then Direct (exact dates are: August 20, September 23, October 4). This takes a seemingly minor aspect and magnifies its potential effects. However, Mercury has just made an inconjunct to Neptune and will Retrograde back to another conjunction with Saturn and do it again (September 22, 23). Although we may think we know what we want and have well-defined goals, at other times we can feel lost at sea, not quite sure which way is up or down, not sure if we are really navigating successfully. Unclear events and messages come at us from our blind spot(s).

Mercury stationing in Libra shows the importance of balanced thought. Equality. Balance means all elements are equally present and important. The inconjunct (quincunx) shows that we only see what we want to see. So we miss a significant amount of information when we move too fast. We have a large blindspot that can trick us. We can even miss our good points and not use or give our greatest gifts because we think they are just not “good enough”; we may think we don’t really measure up. But to what? This is an aspect that can awaken guilt complexes. And to work past these feelings we may need to ease up on standards that demand perfection.

Yet, despite all our practical endeavors, it is our imagination, our ideals, that create the most real and lasting transformations in this world.

It is our dreams that tell our story. Without a story, our lives would be series of unconnected events with no meaning or purpose.

The dream may wither, bend, and twist, but it will never die.

Mercury Retrograde & T-Square Alert!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Lauren @ 7:02 pm

Hi Friends–
It’s that time of year– again!

Three times a year (4 times this year) Mercury makes a Retrograde station.

That means, from the viewpoint of the Earth, due to the differences in the speed of the planets, Mercury appears to travels backwards. This is an illusion — Mercury is always moving forward, but from our Earth perspective, it appears to be traveling backwards.

Mercury makes it’s Retrograde station on September 7, and it lasts through September 29.

Why am I announcing this right now?

Because Mercury is officially “in the Retrograde shadow” (August 17 – October 14). This means Mercury will travel back over these degrees while Retrograde, and even once it stations Direct. It means we are already feeling the effects of Mercury Retrograde.

And, as Mercury enters Libra on August 25, it finds itself squaring both Pluto and Mars (exact on August 26). Debates heat up, yet resolution is a major challenge as we engage in power plays and “he said she said” repartee. (Read the blog post on Mars-Mercury-Pluto)

Yet, the position of Mercury between Pluto and Mars is a clarion call.

And that’s why it’s news now.

It’s also news because this is an extra intense Mercury Retrograde– for several reasons.

1- Most of this Retrograde, Mercury will be in its own sign of Virgo. We usually think of Mercury as ruling Gemini. Yet, it equally rules Virgo. Virgo naturally orders thoughts. When its ruler, Mercury, is Retrograde, that can become an endless loop of editing and re-editing.

2- As Mercury enters Libra, it squares Pluto and Mars (see blog post on Mercury-Mars-Pluto), putting Mercury in the HOT SEAT– at the focal point of a Cardinal T-Square. And, since Mercury will pass this way again, what is said may have to be rethought and restated. Using words to power shift may seem like a smart option, yet may cause more frustration than assistance and need to be redone anyway. Our ability to be rational can depend on whether we working for the good of the whole, or for the profit of certain groups.

3- Mercury begins and ends its Retrograde station inconjunct Neptune and Jupiter. Neptune rules Pisces (Jupiter is the old, personal ruler of Pisces), the opposite of Virgo. And Neptune rules themes like confusion, delusion, illusion. Inconjunct angles indicate something opposing you that just doesn’t make any sense. This aspect is not conducive for straight clear thinking. And since Neptune is in Aquarius, the group sign, it means we don’t understand the thinking of entire groups.

Neptune and Mercury both rule health care, as Mercury rules health, especially acute conditions, while Neptune rules epidemics and drugs. The supporters of health care reform do not understand why people would be against it, while the people who oppose health care reform think the people who want it are ruining their country. “Take government out of Medicare” makes little sense considering Medicare is a government run program. Does this position make sense? Do you want to sort it all out? Regardless of your position, the aspects to the US Chart, using any rectified chart for July 4, 1776, show that the impact on health care can become more immediate and serious. You say “death panels” while nature says, go time! While we debate semantics, nature keeps moving on.

But that’s the point of retrogrades. We are moving backwards, while according to the solar system, the planets only move forward. While we nitpick over details, major events can occur that make all the arguments moot. I always remember the scene in “Raiders of the Lost Ark” where the man comes out brandishing a sword and does an intricate dance, while Harrison Ford just shoots him. So while we’re dancing around the issues and threatening each other, things happen. That is not insurance!

Libra is about our ability to get along. Virgo is about how we work together. This Retrograde shows we need a brush up on getting along and making things work. Slinging slogans is not going to make anything better. Especially when the slogans have nothing to do with facts. But who cares about facts? Message and spirit that engage our attention. When we hear “death panel” we sit up at attention. It doesn’t matter is it’s true or false. But…. this Mercury Retrograde suggests that it is in our best interest to do our research. If we haven’t, we still have time to get it right. Making stuff up, not connecting the dots, may not be the kind of maverick thinking that solves problems and helps to sustain a healthy society. Dis-ease is just a symptom of the lack of health. Mercury making its Retrograde station in Venus-ruled Libra asks us to look at our values, again. And more rationally. Why should we care about being rational? While we are making false claims against what will happen to the sick and elderly, we may be facing an epidemic of mass proportions. What DO we value? Opportunities to hate and smear– or getting things done, making resources available for everyone– equally? Libra is about equality and it is asking us, once again, to be equitable. Sane. Rational.

4- Potential good news. Mercury travels back to 21 Virgo, which starts the dance of Mercury-Mars sextiles of early October. This interchange of Mercury sextile Mars and then Mars sextile Mercury– due to Mars slowing down for a Retrograde station (Oct 16), while Mercury starts moving Direct after being Retrograde– creates conditions to slow down just enough to reach out and talk to someone, even if you do not agree. Although our thoughts are sped up, we may be able to calm down our reactions enough to start a dialogue, even with someone who is WRONG!!!

Let’s leave September-October news to unfold… I’ll be back to update you on Mercury Retrograde and more soon.

Enjoy the remaining days of summer 2009!

Mercury and Mars, with Pluto– the energy of NOW! August 25-28 2009

Filed under: astrology, mars, mercury, mercury retrograde, t-square — Tags: , , — Lauren @ 12:45 pm

So what is happening with the low level energy? Seems to be stuck…

Briefly, here’s why.

Mercury just entered the Retrograde zone, more on that coming early next week!

And, both Mercury and Mars are void of course. They are at the end of the signs they’ve been in and will not make any more aspects to other planets until they change signs on Tuesday, August 25. Mars will enter Cancer AND, on the same day, Mercury will enter Libra.

Cancer and Libra are CARDINAL signs. They gets things moving. They initiate action.

Like the Moon, when planets are void of course, there’s less interaction. Less happens.

And this is Mars, the action planet, waiting to make a change…..

With Mars void of course in late Gemini, it’s a good time to think things over before taking new action, especially what is most near and dear to us, as Mars will enter Cancer, and Mercury will enter Libra. It will be time to ACT.

Mercury is preparing for a Retrograde station on September 7. That means Mercury is slowing down, which means its actions and effects are also slowing down.

Meanwhile, as Mercury enters Libra and Mars enters Cancer on Tuesday, Mercury and Mars will square, while Mars will oppose Pluto and Mercury will square Pluto. This puts Mercury at the focal point of a CARDINAL T-Square, with the potential to exponentially heat up extreme rhetoric, spice up anger with slogans, start wildfires, and let it all show. Yet, finding a resolution is an impossible challenge when all sides are more focused on self-promotion and catchy slogans that amass a larger audience, than finding real, helpful solutions.

Mars is also “out-of-bounds” by declination this week. Declinations are a measure of latitude and out-of-bounds means a planet is higher than the Tropic of Capricorn or Cancer, or 23 degrees 26 minutes. In this case, it’s Cancer. Mars will peak in declination August 28-31 and then start to retreat, yet still be out-of-bounds until September 10. When Mars is at the most extreme declination is when tempers flare and hostilities can fire up. Wars have started under this influence, as the urge to use force seems out of our ability to control. Add an opposition to Pluto, with the square to Mercury, and discussion becomes focused on who has the most power along with the force and resources to use it.

Yet, the approaching Mercury Retrograde station can give us some time to reflect on the importance of cooperation and diplomacy, and positive ideas and outreach can start to gain momentum.

On Friday August 28, Mercury sextiles Venus. This opportunity for cooperation would not happen if Mercury was not slowing down, preparing for a Retrograde station on September 7. This slight slowing down can be just enough to start letting opposing views integrate, find common ground, listen with a little more willingness to hear. Realize that cooperation just may take us all a lot farther than giving in to our anger.

Lots more coming on Mercury Retrograde and the Mercury-Mars dance of Fall 2009!

Les Paul

As the owner of a Gibson, as someone who has played guitar (not electric though) for over 40 years, as someone married to a professional lifelong exceptional guitarist, I offer this chart as tribute to the life of Les Paul. And let it sing of his most amazing accomplishments and contributions. I’m in the middle of a busy day and don’t have time to get into his chart, but note the position of Uranus, its trine to his Sun, his Moon-Mars in Taurus on the Ascendant sextile Pluto and Saturn in the 3rd house, in Cancer, making a trine to ruler Moon in Taurus. An artist! And one who realized the power of his medium. And shared. Here’s his chart

Eclipse: Following-up and Moving on!

Filed under: astrology, eclipse, lunar eclipse — Lauren @ 11:58 am

The Full Moon was beautiful. I was lucky enough to see it, in person! I drove a short way to a big sky view. Took the dogs and some treats for that summer drive-in movie experience. The clouds made it very dramatic.

lunar eclipse over the mountain view

lunar eclipse over the mountain view

Yet, although I had studied the Full Moon chart for hours, days, weeks, what I did not realize until I actually looked at the Full Moon, was the proximity of Jupiter. Yup, that was Jupiter to the left (east) of the Moon, as the Moon was approaching Jupiter (also in Aquarius) at the time of the Full Moon (the exact Moon-Jupiter conjunction was the next afternoon, August 6).

In the hours and days after the Eclipse, the Jupiter-effect took hold. Optimism was in the air. Yes, there are major stumbling blocks to progress, symbolized by Mars square Saturn (exact Monday, August 10), but we felt the clarity and vision to do anything. But this is no ordinary Mars-Saturn square (they never are!) as Mars highlights and focuses the ongoing and upcoming Saturn-Uranus opposition (exact again on September 15). We can see our resistance to change. Life can seem at a standstill, progress can stop, inertia can set in. Yet, as we realize that our resistance comes from fear, even our resistance can change! Mars also trines Jupiter this week, and if we stay positive, we can find our energy and use it for our greatest benefit instead of using it to deny, negate, and foil our best interests.

The Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius was about focusing our energy so we can use it positively and productively. We learned the value of meditation to still our minds so we can see a clear reflection. We found that by achieving inner peace, we could find original, innovative, uplifting answers to frustrating questions. We learned how creative and powerful our thoughts can be, as they instantly integrate into the culture. We knew this, but we experienced it and knew it again through the Eclipse, in a new way.

Post-eclipse, the work continues. Mars squares Saturn and then goes on to trine Jupiter and Neptune, also Chiron. The challenge of keeping an open mind increases. Mars-Saturn can make our fears seem more real while it tests our patience and beliefs. Authority figures can push us to or even past our limits, possibly increasing tension, frustration, and disagreements. They can discount and devalue self-worth, forcing us to do things that are against our best interests, including work for less pay and less recognition. This can be an ongoing dilemma that challenges the entire economy over the next year and a half as Saturn and Uranus oppose. (see the end of this article for a Saturn-Uranus timeline)

Yet, as Mars moves on to trine Jupiter, Neptune, and Chiron (Aug 13-17), we can start to see the value of keeping an open mind, and even extend that courtesy to ourselves, despite what we are led to believe about our personal value. We see that we need to maintain balance so we are not frozen by our fears, failures, and losses — or overwhelmed by our potential. We are learning to integrate our spiritual selves with our material needs.

We may feel tested and strained (by the Mars-Saturn square), yet the patience we have found through reflecting on the Lunar Eclipse can help us craft (Mars in Gemini) our frustrations into real accomplishments (Saturn in Virgo).

To be open-minded is to accept the uniqueness of all individuals. Instead of trying to control their thoughts, being open to the differences. Instead of trying to limit, cut off, condemn, inhibit, shame, suppress, and/or withhold, finding interest in our differences. Being ready and able to learn, in other words, having an open mind! Even and especially for our own inconsistencies.

While there may be lessons and setbacks, you can continue to use the lessons of the Eclipse to become more focused and disciplined. And as you cut through the self-doubt and inhibitions, you can reclaim your energy and accomplish more. You can see the value of staying positive, magnified as Mars trines Jupiter, Chiron, and Neptune. If you’re balanced, you can even get lucky! You don’t have to see yourself as The Best Ever– and you don’t have to see yourself as a constant failure. But you can increase your consciousness. You can choose to allow your natural self-confidence to make you feel enthusiastic, and graduate to the next level.

The Eclipse in Aquarius also taught us the value of detachment. While detachment may seem cold, it is by detaching from the ego’s attachment that we align with our intuition.

To further integrate the oppositions of the Aquarius Full Moon, here are some questions you can ask yourself for meditation and reflection. You may want to meditate on these questions, or write about them in your journal, or just let your mind mull them over….

In what ways are you inflexible? How do you hold on to structures, even though you know the foundation is not strong enough to build and sustain your hopes and dreams?

Where have you noticed that you are not open-minded? And how can you be more open to new resources and ideas? Without feeling overwhelmed by them!

How can you take control of yourself by redirecting your energy or focus? This can be done more easily with this week’s Mars aspects.

How can you participate more to raise consciousness and awareness?

Are you ready to let go of more shame so you can reclaim your energy?

How can you release your ego’s hold and be more open to your higher guidance?

How can you open yourself to all the good things you deserve and would like to receive?

Saturn-Uranus oppositions
The first Saturn-Uranus opposition in Virgo-Pisces was November 4, 2008
The next was February 5, 2009
The next upcoming is September 15.
Saturn will enter Libra (Oct 29)
Then both Saturn and Uranus station Retrograde
There’s another opposition at 28 Virgo-Pisces on April 26, 2010
Uranus will enter Aries (May 2010)
And they will oppose in the Cardinal signs of Aries-Libra on July 26, 2010
After that, Saturn will continue to move into Libra, while Uranus spends a little more time Retrograde in Pisces
(Uranus stations Retrograde on July 5, 2010 and moves back into late Pisces and enter Aries again on August 13, 2010)
Then we can discuss the upcoming Pluto-Saturn square along with Uranus in Aries and get all heated up!
