Mercury Direct: Mars gets things moving!

Mercury stations Direct on Tuesday, September 29, 2009.

It’s a great week to talk about — you!

Really, what more can you add to any conversation to tell people about yourself and what you’re doing.

Mercury stations Direct. Back to business.

But— as Mercury stations Direct, it barely moves this week.

First, Mercury makes its Direct station just as it approaches an exact sextile to Mars (October 1). Then, because Mercury is barely moving, the same sextile happens again on October 4. Both while Mercury is Direct. This is am astrological phenomena. It’s Mercury sextile Mars, then Mars sextile Mercury, due to which planet is moving faster– Mercury and Mars are truly coming to meet. Usually, Mercury is the faster planet, right now it’s Mars. And Mars is also moving slower than normal due to its upcoming Retrograde station in December.

Ahhh….. the magic of Retrograde stations!

As Mercury and Mars make 2 sextiles, this can be an active week for aggressively speaking your mind and getting projects back on the front burner. There’s been considerable mental energy stored up from the Mercury Retrograde. So– if someone says something you disagree with, the tendency can be to shoot back an instant aggressive response. And while you are being forceful, Mercury in Virgo asks us to think about how our thoughts and statements fit in to the world. How well do you translate your ideas into action? Do others understand what you’re saying? Are you speaking to be assertive or to assert your superiority? Are your words intended to make a helpful point or find a positive solution? You can form helpful alliances now– if you are open to listening to more than yourself. And, as a bonus, if you can work well with others, you may be able to find even better solutions to current problems that you can put to use instantly.

If you don’t know the how-to’s of effective self-promotion, this is a great time to learn. There are countless programs, books, teachers, websites, and coaches that can help you, if you make even the slightest effort to reach out. And right now, there’s plenty of energy to reach out!

It’s a great week to lend a helping hand!

Sunday is a hub day, so more on Sunday soon!

Also this week, besides the obviously beautiful Full Moon, there is a unique outer-planet aspect as Uranus semisextiles Neptune and a new cultural awareness dawns….

G is for Gratitude and Generosity

Today, Thursday September 24, is one of the luckiest days for extending your gratitude.

The generosity you extend today, even just a little, can come back to you in big and wonderful ways.

Today is truly a give and you will receive day!

(This afternoon, the Moon in Sagittarius makes only one major aspect, a sextile to its ruler Jupiter, by Jove!)

To attract more gratitude, and hence more blessings and good luck, try writing the letter “g” over and over on a page. But use this form of the g!

Fall Equinox 2009: power share

Filed under: Libra, astrology, autumn, equinox, fall, mercury retrograde — Tags: , , — Lauren @ 2:45 pm

Happy Fall Equinox!

This is the time when all things are equal. The Sun in Libra is time for balance.

Here’s the chart for Equinox cast for NY, where I live.

fall equinox 2009

fall equinox 2009

Read the symbols using artcharts LEGEND

At Fall Equinox, the Sun enters Libra.

And as the Sun enters Libra this year, it squares Pluto at 0 degrees Capricorn. This is a clash of power. We find our power through our identity. Yet, in Libra we need to partner to achieve our highest potential. Pluto also suggests the need to partner, as Pluto is a planet that demands interaction. But the square implies a clash, conflict.

Yet, the chart for Autumn Equinox 2009 reveals that cooperation can make you even more powerful and successful.

The challenge this square illuminates is this: what YOU want needs to coordinate with the needs of others. Focusing only on getting for yourself can be seen as a powergrab, and power will be increasingly questioned, disputed, and challenged. Using threats and underhanded strategies to get over are more than likely to result in intensified conflicts. This isn’t about how many ways you can attack others and find where they are at fault. This is about how many ways you can take personal responsibility and display self-control. Not to repress your desires, but to find effective ways to save up your personal power so you can use it when you really need it!

People can see and resent attempts to manipulate and threaten and use rumors to get your way. They may even take action against you, which can be done behind your back or in secret, and sprung upon you when you least expect it!

The theme of Fall Equinox is doing this together.

Venus, ruler of the Sun in Libra, has just entered Virgo and is trine Pluto in Capricorn; mutual cooperation is to everyone’s advantage.

There is a Grand Trine from Moon-Mars-Uranus. The Moon is not only trine Mars, they are in “mutual reception”, meaning they are in each other’s signs strengthening each other and even able to stand in for each other [Moon is in Mars-ruled Scorpio and Mars is in Moon-ruled Cancer]. Adversaries can find ways to connect positively, and they both trine Uranus– sweeping change can happen quickly.

Not only is there a Grand Trine, Mercury and Saturn are conjunct, creating a Kite as they sextile Mars and Moon. When we stop and think, seriously, and do some research, again, we may find solutions that can work. There may be commitments we haven’t fulfilled, obligations we need to re-think, work we’ve neglected to complete, health concerns we’ve overlooked. But this Fall, we can blast through the emotional blocks the subvert our energy.

This is an opportunity to manifest what you really want. And what’s so important about manifesting? Why can’t we just enjoy ourselves and go on with our lives? We can! But some of us want to take the energy we are feeling and ground it in an activity that creates something tangible; that creates a meaningful life with goals and objectives.

Mercury-Saturn also returns the theme of respect and honor. To work well together, we need to be respectful of each other, even when we disagree. It can also be our emotions that kick in and make us take statements out of context, speaking and reacting in harsh and extreme ways.

At Equinox, the Sun is always at 0 declination. At Fall Equinox, the Sun is at 0 N, or on the Tropic of Cancer. Also at Equinox, Mercury is at 0 S, or on the Tropic of Capricorn. When planets oppose by declination, it is called contraparallel and will hopefully provide the balance and distance to view situations and opinions more objectively and rationally. It is a call to be reasonable.

Mercury is Retrograde, conjunct Saturn, and square Uranus. In order to make the changes we want to make, we need to take care of business. What we will need to do– again– this Autumn is: Review details we glossed over, judgments taken out of context, listen more carefully, and make the distinction between words spoken for the effect and the real meaning. Then, when we have fulfilled our word, we can make changes.

Yet, while Mercury is Retrograde, and repeatedly forming a T-square to the Saturn-Uranus opposition for the past month, it is showing us — in slow motion– why we resist. Change is not easy. Change means things are not the same– transition can throw us off. What we relied on is no longer there. But– it depends on how you approach new adventures. Change can be exhilarating, but you have to relax and enjoy the ride. And that’s not easy when the pressure is ON. Yet, it’s when we’re the most busy and active that we need to stay mindful of our pace, remaining relaxed so we maintain our personal power and ability to think clearly. When you make snap decisions out of fear or panic, you can go off on an adventure that is not in step with your inner self. However, if you approach your adventure in the state of mind of being open to change and curious about the future, you can stay in touch with your inner self and be safely guided, even past potential danger.

Good luck on your journey,

Please let me know if I can help connect you to your higher guidance!

Sun and Saturn

Filed under: astrology, saturn, sun — Tags: , — Lauren @ 11:49 pm

The Sun an Saturn are conjunct in late Virgo today.

They are both opposing Uranus exactly.

This combinatin can make us feel so righteous we feel obligated to point out the faults of anyone who seems in any way outside the mainstream right now. Yet, by pointing our fingers at “the other” we are missing any personal responsibility we may have for our lives, our history, how we came to this moment, what happened to get us here. If it’s all out there, what about what’s in here? Our conditioning and beliefs tell us not to look in there, to point our fingers out there. So this is not easy stuff, though it seems so simple.

As Retrograde Mercury transits 0 Libra, a Cardinal, or Aries Point, it seems everyone is mouthing off and everyone will have to re-think their words. As Mercury travels back into Virgo, we have to start doing our research. Hurling insults at each other is not solving anything– unless your goal really is to fight anyone who is different. The Sun-Saturn conjunction also warns about feeling so sure of yourself that you get arrogant and miss important details.

There are multiple oppositions. Not only is Saturn-Sun opposing Uranus, Venus is opposing Neptune, so there is a lot of projecting going on– especially if something gives you an emotional charge. And that can start to add up as we approach the New Moon. This makes it edgy. And personal.

Criticism can be justified And constructive criticism can be helpful, we all need guidance at times! But self-serving criticism designed to put someone down while promoting yourself, runs the risk of be based on illusion, and out of context.

We are all uncertain at times, even if we don’t show it. But as the Sun and Saturn conjunct and oppose Uranus, more of us can be feeling like loners; we are feeling the part of ourselves that is outside the mainstream, perhaps fearing we are not 100% socially acceptable. We all have this fear within, even if we don’t acknowledge it. We are under so much pressure to perform and conform, it is next to impossible to take the down-time to reflect, or think differently. There’s always something you promised you’d do. Cardinal squares can feel like you’re in perpetual motion.

To relieve stress, you may have to let go of ideals of perfection– in yourself and in others. These aspects can also help you keep building all the parts of your life — friends, relationships, work, family, career, exercise, study, relaxation — so you stay balanced.

Till next time….

Here’s artcharts TIP JAR. Nothing to join! This is easy to do. Thanks for your tip;-)

Getting it— wrong

Filed under: astrology — Lauren @ 2:18 pm

Every time I say anything about current events, someone steps up to shout me down.

And every time they have done this, they have assumed I was saying the exact OPPOSITE of what I was saying.

Every time!

Yet, their emotions got the better of their ability to read, so they let themselves FREAK OUT. Hey guys, I am not even paid to do this, I am extending a service, even though I am also busy doing paid work (art commissions, shows, etc etc ). If you have a comment, please, at least read what I wrote! In 13 years, every angry comment I have received got me 100% wrong. This newsletter was about the importance of society. And the responsibility to be respectful of others– even if changes need to be made.

If you feel the need to do a monolog, maybe become a comedian or put a performance piece together. Or go to your local town meetings– but as Mercury Retrogrades back into Virgo, you’ll want to do your research, again and better.

And speaking of a great monolog, did anyone catch Lewis Black on the Daily Show Wednesday night (9/16)? He pegged it. We are going through a phase, the Anger Phase. We went through the 60s of love, the 80s of greed, and he goes on. Now, we’re doing the Anger phase. I’ve been calling this decade the Naughts, as in naught used to mean zero. But it’s an old meaning of the word, so it never caught on. Naught. So hopefully after we express our anger we can start to see what it’s really made of, and we can release our anger. Peacefully. Because ultimately, that’s why this is happening. If you’re not ready to release, that’s fine too. To everything there is a purpose.

Saturn opposes Uranus

Filed under: astrology, saturn, uranus — Tags: , — Lauren @ 7:45 pm

Saturn is opposing Uranus.

Today.

It’s big news. But it’s not all Saturn is doing right now.

Saturn is opposing Uranus, quincunx Neptune, conjunct the Sun, approaching a conjunction with Retrograde Mercury, and approaching a square to Pluto– exact on November 15, only 2 months from now.

This week (September 14 – 20), Saturn will be joined by the Sun while they both oppose Uranus. While we have to carry on our personal responsibilities, we are also being called on to be more socially aware, and ultimately, socially responsible. This is not an easy change! We have not been conditioned to do this. Yet, our whole inner psychology is changing, slowly. We value independence, we value independent thinkers, we value freedom. We are afraid of restrictions. Yet, it is our limits that define us, that give us a place to become fully ourselves. That give us the guidelines to grow, to build, to become responsible to our goals.

Saturn, the last visible planet representing social order, is making aspects to all 3 outer planets, while conjunct Mercury, the messenger. We need to become social responsible. Instead of hating, we need to respond.

That may seem natural to some, yet the concept may be an alien idea to many others.

So why should we bother to recycle, take our garbage to centers instead of throwing it anywhere we feel like it? Care about problems like global warming? Why should we pay for some other person we don’t even know? Why should we fund “projects” that help the poor, or disadvantaged children, or those who can’t afford health care? Because we live in a society. You can choose to live off the grid. But you have to buy your land, farm your food, make your power, not use the roads or the hospitals, not use any product manufactured by “the system”, and pray that you never need military backup. And of course no schools or fire departments, police. But you’re in control. Or the strongest person in your neighborhood is! Or, we can choose to live in a society of equals.

These aspects will demand that we become more clear about our beliefs. A sketchy idea may be pure illusion. Keep in mind that Saturn is also quincunx Neptune, things are not the way they seem and beliefs can be based on these unclear perceptions.

And– Saturn is approaching a square to Pluto, hastened and announced by Mercury moving between Saturn and Pluto as it makes its current Retrograde station, we are ripe for manipulation unless we take another look.

Saturn opposes Uranus September 15, 2009 from StarLight Solutions:

“New ideas, changes, innovations, or expressions of personal creative eccentricities are met with entrenched resistance, fearful authoritarian conservatism, or bureaucratic hindrances and delays. Unruly behavior, impulsive spontaneous expression, or experimenting with new forms may well be seen as threats to tradition and to the status quo. These two forces collide, generating considerable tension and frustration within you. This may lead to radical departures from your existing life, a revolt that no one, including you, saw coming. Freedom versus security or commitment, idealism versus practicality, individual rights versus responsibilities to others, dancing to the beat of a different drummer versus conforming to societal expectations, growing up versus remaining an adolescent, staying put versus breaking free are some of the themes being played out in your world now.

Positive Potentials:

Grounding. Giving form and definition, structure and commitment to one’s inspiration, abstract ideals, and personal genius. Integrating the opposing forces, finding value in both.

Negative Potentials:

Discordant and confrontational attitudes which only serve to separate and polarize both parties. Stress-related conditions are aggravated. Disruptions of personal security. Accidents as an expression of inner frustration.

Remedies and Suggestions:

Blame, resentment, or polarizing against either of the sides will only intensify the distress. If you feel you must sever ties with an oppressor or extremely restrictive situation, try to do so with some grace and courtesy. By making the other a villain and yourself the victim, you set yourself up to meet the same problem again a little further down the road.

See where you can incorporate freshness and experimentation into your old patterns, and where you can apply discipline or learn from a tradition in your creative life. Try to honor both sides.

Therapeutic massages, bodywork, or a regular yoga practice can be very helpful now.”

This interpretation emphasizes the need to honor both sides, a very Saturnian theme, as Saturn asks us to both love and respect each other by honoring the rules of society. And Uranus, opposing, asks that those rules are fair and equitable to all. Yet Uranus also wants freedom and listening to the details of the rules, especially since Saturn is in detail-oriented Virgo, gets tedious. Uranus wants change NOW! And since the Sun and Saturn are opposing Uranus, the urge for freedom can create enough pressure to — explode! No more waiting, things have to happen NOW, nevermind what the authorities say. This is a maverick aspect. This feeling of having to strike out on your own is very real.

But, since Uranus is opposing responsible Saturn, we are also being called on to express our independence in constructive ways. Smashing everything we’re against may not lead to any lasting change, but can destroy many lives. More karmic baggage, symbolized by the Mercury-Pluto square that will return again this fall. Underlying any hostility we can be feeling about “the other side” is a feeling of not being welcome, not being included in the group, being outcast, judged, and invalidated. Instantly stereotyped.

Ironically during this opposition, we can start to realize that we may be on one side in one situation, and on another in a different situation. In some cases you may be an integral part of the group, yet in other parts of your life, you may feel like an outsider. It’s not all one way or the other. Yet, regardless of which side we are on, if we allow our group status to make it seem acceptable to hurt others, we are sacrificing more than we realize– we are giving all our personal freedom to the group. Whatever the group says is the right thing to do, think, like, dislike, wear– whatever they say is exactly what we will do to fit in. Yet, though we may fit in, we are no longer the independent individual we used to be. We may have power in numbers, but alone, we still need to know ourselves. And since Mercury is also square Pluto, if you don’t know your own mind, you are ripe for manipulation by persuasive thinkers and speakers.

How can you be less complacent and more accepting, even within your own group?

Are you free when you have to wear and say exactly what everyone else is wearing and saying? What do you do to be accepted? No judgments! Just notice.

If you embrace intolerance, how clear is your thinking if all you can do is think of more ways to hate, fear, distrust.

Since Mercury is Retrograde, thinking is going to turn around. Information is going to light that changes minds. One thing we are going to realize is that people who are fueling hatred are making a lot of $$$ doing it!

Perhaps after the New Moon– when the Sun and Moon join Saturn in opposing Uranus– we will see our resistance to change in more personal ways. While it may be time to push past limits, the resistance we feel may be within each of us.

Whether or not we (always) feel validated by the group, it’s still our personal responsibility to value ourselves. We can choose to focus on opportunities, or on negative judgments. If we can accept that we all need guidance and leadership at times, we can release our judgments– on ourselves– and start to find more balance, within and without.

Love&Trines,
Lauren
