Today’s Astrology Horoscope (for all signs)
Nightfall on Thursday, July 29. As the sun sets, the conjunction of Mars enters Libra and is within a degree of a conjunction with Saturn. Their conjunction will both be visible in the evening sky (in EDT).
BIG Monday!! Right after Sunday’s Full Moon there was a major culmination of a long-term opposition of Saturn and Uranus (see the blog entry already archived on this blog!).
Tuesday, Mercury enters Virgo. Instead of the usual 3 weeks Mercury spends in a sign, Mercury will remain in Virgo through October 3 due to an upcoming Retrograde station (August 20 – September 12). This is the perfect time to go back to school, continue your education, get clear on the facts. Just kinda sorta knowing something can get you caught up in a mental tape loop…. But by the grace of Mercury, we now have until October 3 (when Mercury enters Libra) to learn something we can put to practical everyday use.
Jupiter is conjunct Uranus and Saturn is conjunct Saturn. Saturn-Mars opposes Jupiter-Uranus, and crisscross to form a Mystic Rectangle. And the Mercury-Neptune opposition goes right through the middle, forming a YOD to Neptune-Chiron. That means that both opposition intersects and form trines and sextiles. This is helpful. This is fateful. It shows that despite all the vast and serious differences, and they are strong, there are solutions; cooperation is possible. Healing is possible. But it depends on how we behave, our attitude, the choices we make.
Friday, July 30 is a Mars day! The Moon is void of course in Pisces for most of the day, so it’s a slow start. This is the longest void in awhile. It starts Thursday night and goes through Friday in the late afternoon. During the void, Mars, just into Libra, opposes Uranus in (Mars-ruled) Aries, while the Moon enters Aries and conjuncts Uranus. This is a lot of hectic impulsive energy. It can feel stressful or spontaneous–depending on how you see it!

Mars, ruler of Aries, opposes Uranus, is also approaching a conjunction with Saturn. This cautions us to slow down! If you can have the patience to slow down and listen carefully, you may be able to approach a complicated situation. If you use your energy carefully, it will burn slow.
We’re approaching one of the 3 yearly Mercury Retrograde stations– in Virgo. On Saturday, July 31, Mercury enters the “shadow zone” of the Retrograde phase. This means that on Saturday, Mercury will be at the degree it will Retrograde back to in August…. Hopefully, you’ll have your fall education plans set before the end of July! more info and complete timetable!
Sunday, Venus makes a semisquare to the Sun. This is rare because Venus and the Sun are not often that far apart (45 degrees). But– they are now because Venus is far ahead of the Sun (45 degrees), which is why she’s so bright in the evening sky. It also means Venus is getting closer to a Retrograde station (October 8). When Venus is far enough ahead of the Sun to make a semisquare, we are usually at a point of overindulging in friends and fun. Just one more! But are we having fun, or are we feeling socially pressured to spend and party. How much fun and food is too much?!

Today’s Astrology Horoscope (for all signs)
It’s 4th of July mega weekend! From the (currently exact) sextile of Mercury and Mars (Mercury in its own sign of Gemini, and Mars in Mercury-ruled Virgo) it seems everyone is hittin’ the road. No invitation? Call someone quick! It can be easy and fun to get out of town for the weekend. We leave NYC because our dog has a hard time with fireworks. Not that it’s quieter in the country (where they shoot off fireworks and guns), but with Sun and Mercury trine Mars, it’s time for a change of scene and neighborhood. Even if you can’t “get away” just going to a different neighborhood can make you feel rejuvenated and informed. So pick up a local newspaper or call a friend or relative– it’s a great time for summer networking.
This is the quiet week between the Eclipses. The Lunar Eclipse was on June 26, and the Solar is on July 11.
Early Monday morning was the Sun-Mercury conjunction. This signals the midpoint of the current Mercury Direct phase (Mercury’s next Retrograde is August 20 -September 12). When the Sun and Mercury conjunct within 17 minutes of arc, Mercury is “under the Sunbeams”, making it literally too hot to think. This coincides perfectly with the current heatwave here in NYC! This Mercury can feel like Mercury is Retrograde.
Do minor aspects matter? The sesqui-squares and semi-squares are like eighth notes (half a square), so they manifest in the small things that force change, like the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. Currently, Venus is sesqui-square the Uranus-Jupiter conjunction. What messages are you getting from your groups? How do these messages influence you? Do the encourage you or hold you back from success? This can manifest in many ways that are not seemingly direct, yet are clues, like following the trail. Friendship and money can be the stressors that force change and open you to new possibilities…
Next week is a Total Solar Eclipse. Last week’s Lunar Eclipse–with Moon conjunct Pluto– focused on the current long-term Cardinal Square to Pluto. This is about love s power, about the need to OVER-power instead of EM-power. We try to overpower when our ego perceives danger, when a “competitor” seems to be getting an advantage. The ego is strong! But it forgets there is anything besides itself. Like the proverbial “titanic”it doesn’t see any other realm besides itself. The ego mistakes the personal “i” for the whole. And from that point it forms opinions and makes judgments. Trying to explain this to an insecure ego is more likely to create more defensiveness than bring about release or understanding, which lead to wholeness and healing. In the grip of the ego, it seems only natural, and even smart, to be suspicious, shrewd, and use whatever tactics you can to debase and degrade your “enemy”. So what happens to the love? Is that for Saturday night only–IF you “get lucky”? And who are we really “putting down”? A strong ego realizes it does not grow by hating and denying others because all that anger and suspicion is really a projection of our own denied feelings.
The Cardinal Grand Square will continue to intensify this coming fall and winter 2011, giving us time to strategize. Meanwhile, Venus is testing the Cardinal Square by sesqui-squaring 2 planets in the Grand Cross– Jupiter and Pluto– this week. Seems that this minor aspect IS super manifesting, as the markets fell sharply with Venus’ sesqui-square to both Jupiter and Pluto! How can we use and share our strengths and talents without our egos overpowering and taking full, 100% control? This can feel like sharing your finest makes you a sentimental fool worthy of group ridicule, which keeps many of us from sharing ourselves. And that is the “feminine” or relatedness principle operating silently within each of us. Yet, maintaining a suspicious attitude towards others won’t make it easy to get beyond the feeling that you have to take all you can get from anyone you can. And that kind of over-powering can push love away. If you don’t want to share your love, talents and strengths, what are you holding out for? This is the time when underlying, unconscious imprints are seen through what you resent in others. If you don’t feel you can share openly, and with a gracious heart, events can happen that help you release blockages and bring toxins to the surface.
Values, in themselves, are feminine. In astrology, values are ruled by Taurus and the second house. If you read Jung and Jungians, you will come to understand that the very concept of values is feminine. And if you devalue the feminine because, duh, masculine needs are so much more real and pressing, then you have no value for the feminine and no values either. We are just waking up to all this. It’s been thousands of years, so it’s also a slow awakening.
