Solar Eclipse. January 15, 2010

Filed under: astrology,astrology chart,astrology forecast,eclipse,solar eclipse — Tags: , , — Lauren Edmond @ 11:51 am

Eclipses generally come in pairs. Lunar and Solar.

Lunar Eclipses (December 31) occur with FULL Moons.

Solar Eclipses occur with NEW Moons.

During New Moons, you CAN’T see the Moon. But during a Solar Eclipse, the invisible Moon becomes visible as we see its shadow move across the SUN. The invisible becomes visible. The subconscious becomes conscious.

The Solar Eclipse of January 15 2010 is not an easy chart. I know. Ugh. And what a drag astrology can be! While numerologists and tarot readers are predicting a fabulous 2010, astrologers are not joining in. I know. Who wants to hear bad news? Not many of us! Yet, life does have its ups and downs, and if no one warns you about that last missing step,,,,,, And if things do get challenging, isn’t it better to know that was a possibility than to think it’s all your fault and you’re losing your mind? Having a full size vision of your life also helps you make better choices and achieve more understanding. And while no one likes a cry baby, no one likes an arrogant stuck-up person either! We The People did not appreciate being told we were going on a “cakewalk” that turned into a brutal war. This Eclipse CAN be a great experience– if YOU embrace change! Not just tolerate it. But welcome it. Be not only willing but excited to give up your comforts for the unknown.

Eclipses symbolize a change in consciousness. We walk through a doorway. And while that can be exciting, we also realize that we are LEAVING something behind. And that can be an adjustment on many levels.

Change can be exciting, or change can be scary. Change changes! In some parts of our lives, we may welcome change. In others, we may dread it and hold it back with all our energy.

For many years I’ve been making change for change! That needs to change!

Here’s a chart for the Solar Eclipse, cast for New York City, EST.

A few hours after the Solar Eclipse, Mercury will make a Direct Station. At this time, when Mercury hangs in the sky motionless, it will be conjunct Pluto and square Saturn. Nevermind anything as flimsy as New Year’s Resolutions! This is about making SOLID commitments that you are willing to work hard to maintain, even under a stress test. There is relief! Mercury stops just a degree from all this being exact. So there is some room, but it’s close enough to get the message.

The Mercury-Saturn square repeats (it frames this Mercury Rx station), which can feel like you can just never get what you need, somehow, it will be denied. Things are moving, but in VERY SLOW MOTION….

Yet, Mercury square Saturn again– while conjunct Pluto in early Capricorn– suggests that if you select carefully, you can focus on what is most important. There is also a connection between Saturn, ruler of Capricorn, squaring Mercury and Pluto in Capricorn. You can achieve your goals, but you will need to be practical and focused. And good at what you do!

To make a serious, ongoing commitment to ONE thing or person, you have to limit other areas of life. You don’t HAVE TO make a commitment, you can just sort of flow unconsciously through life, see what happens…. But the problem with that strategy is that you don’t build anything. Nothing is developed. Everything remains on a superficial level. If you are not willing to LEARN the lessons of Saturn, you are not evading some grim fate, you are missing the point, the teaching, the kernel of truth.

But as 2010 begins, some of us are in an angry state of mind. Mars is Retrograde in Leo, our egos are going through CHANGES!!! We don’t WANT TO grow up!!! Some of us will even have emotional tantrums on TV, and others will watch and support this! Many of us are afraid of an uncertain future. We only want to hear GOOD things. Yet, if we really didn’t want anything but GOOD NEWS, why were We, The People, so upset when the “cakewalk” we were promised turned into a fierce ongoing battle? Why do we tolerate certain news programs broadcasting negative emotional displays? We don’t like negative surprises. Yet, when astrology suggests it can turn on a light, we run for cover!

The square from Saturn to Pluto is a teaching of GROWING UP. We don’t want to. We insist others take care of us, at no cost to us. Yet, this demand keeps us in the child zone. That’s ok too, we all grow at our own pace. Right now, the pace is slow motion.

Many of us will feel and use this energy defensively. We will deny others, make unrealistic accusations, and say negative things to attempt to control situations and manipulate through force or threat to get what we want. Yet, we can find ourselves digging a continuously deeper and deeper hole, as we continue to blame others for things beyond their control or not anyone’s “fault”. If this finding fault and blaming are our first line of defense, we may experience the winter of 2010 as extremely challenging.

Another important astrological event occurring with the New Moon-Solar Eclipse is JUPITER’s ingress into Pisces. This is a VERY brief visit! Jupiter usually spends a year in a sign, but is only spending months in PIsces before moving on to Aries– and more about this all over the astrological internet as this transit adds to the Cardinal T-Square, which will be a Grand Cardinal Cross at Summer solstice.

So while we are still complaining and blaming, and before all H*LL breaks lose this summer, we have a few months to find our compassion for more than just our selves.

Put some SUN in your Moon! That’s right. At this New Moon in Cancer, the Moon is in its rulership or home sign of Cancer. This gives the Moon more power, greater influence, more receptivity. We can consciously FEEL the effects of the New Moon, even though they are internal, personal, deeply familiar.

Like the Great Mother, the Moon contains us. The Moon is our body that contains our Spirit. And at this New Moon in Cancer, you can directly FEEL your body as container for Spirit, represented by the Sun in the horoscope. YOU are your own guide through your inner landscape, exploring and discovering interior parts of yourself, reconnecting with your inner child, and gaining new insights and abilities to heal the past. And by healing and releasing your past, you are moving energy and animating your present. Bold effort may be needed, yet by taking a calculated yet courageous risk, you can free energy that has been creating deep ruts and general apathy in your life.

The Cancer New Moon coincides with the ingress of Mars into Virgo along with the upcoming Mars-Saturn conjunction, a time for renewed awareness of our body-mind connection.

This is not the time to cover your emotions with a big happy face. Doing that will keep your emotions tucked safely inside, making it more appealing to crawl into a shell and less interesting to venture out. But this is a time you can shine a light on your emotions so they can be a source of love that can genuinely nurture you, and others. The Cancer New Moon heightens our awareness of our internal process, our past, our family, and how we feel about our most personal lifestyle choices.

Not only the Moon, but the Sun is also in Cancer, so you can experience a direct, personal realization of how love is within and around you. As you connect to your inner love, you will naturally radiate and extend your love to others, as shown astrologically by the exact opposition of Jupiter to Venus. The Moon and Sun are also approaching oppositions to Jupiter (the Moon will oppose Jupiter on July 3, the Sun on July 9). This is a time you can open your heart chakra in a way that feels safe because it moves and heals emotional energy. When you hide your feelings, nothing moves– you feel stuck because your emotional energy is stuck. Movement is necessary for healing to begin. Take an exercise break, stretch your legs and arms, move in any way you can. How are you sitting right now? Are you comfortable, grounded, clenched, crossed, upright? What tension in your body can you release right now. Take a deep breath and let it go. Now how do you feel. Awareness of your inner sensations will help you to continue to release whatever stress you are holding in your body.

This is body-mind awareness without judgement. As you realize the role your emotions play in the health of your physical body, you can start to release the emotions that are the root cause of (most) physical problems.

You may want to reconnect to parts of your past that have been previously cut off. New genetic services can trace family lines through DNA, and discovering family history can be a path to inner discovery.

You may give more thought to how you are dependent on your family, or how family-members have become dependent on you. Are you able to only give, or only receive? If either path is blocked, this can reflect in every relationship in your life.

Since Cancer is the WATER element, our psychic abilities can become more obvious during this New Moon. You can tune into the feelings and thoughts of others, without even realizing it. This can help you to empathize, but by entering into the inner space of others, you can also confuse their thoughts and feelings with your own. Is it their pain, or yours? How can you release feelings and emotions you have been holding about family members, especially old hurts and sorrows. You may find old feelings you had put into your psychic deepfreeze coming back into your consciousness through dreams or visualizations. This is a time many of us will realize how important it is to let go of judgement, of ourselves and others. We realize the power of forgiveness, of letting go of the hurt feelings and emotions that have kept you in a seemingly unchangeable role and made achieving goals seem selfish, wrong, or impossible.

By being centered and present, you can attract the admiration and inspiration you need to feel validated, valued, and on your path.

The sign of Cancer is a time of movement. So why does the energy still feel like nothing wants to move??!! That even something moves an inch, it stops again and is hard to get back into motion?

While love is expanding and growing, you can also feel that progress has ground to a halt. The energy of the Cancer New Moon can be so protective that you rather hibernate than socialize, even with your closest friends and partners. You may find you need to put all your energy into a very complicated but necessary task, perhaps something you’ve been dreading that includes clerical work or other focused detailed work. Perhaps a new job or job routine is coming.

At this New Moon, Mars has just entered Virgo (July 1) and is approaching a conjunction with Saturn (July 10). Our energy level depends on how we process, organize, and digest what we’re experiencing. Are we stressing or getting organized? Clearing clutter and getting organized can lay the groundwork that can help you to focus and be productive, even in the summer. You can start to realize how much your own thoughts have held you back– much more than anything anyone else is doing. And the thoughts can hold you back the most include second-guessing every desire. As soon as you admit a desire and state it, you can start to think of every reason it can’t possibly happen, at least until you edit your desires. And to meet some of those desires now, you may have to throw yourself into some detailed or craft work, with passion. Working on your solar plexus or 3rd chakra can help to keep energy flowing steadily, and reduce tension that comes from resistance. With patience, you can take all the steps necessary to keep moving. Even if your steps are small and calculated now, they can be skillful, practical, and get you into a healthier routine.

Ongoing Astrology Note: Chiron and Neptune are both in the 3rd decanate of Aquarius. And they will continue to travel together for the next few years, culminating in an exact conjunction in February 2010. You can read what I wrote about this long-term Chiron-Neptune conjunction on artcharts.

_______________

Astro Tip of the Week… The New Moon occurs when the Sun and the Moon conjunct. People have asked what I mean by “conjunct.” This is an astronomical event. Conjunctions occur when planets appear to be together in the sky. Measuring the planets, they are in the exact same location in the zodiac. At this New Moon, both the Sun and the Moon are at 11 degrees Cancer, 34 minutes of arc.

When planets conjunct, the energies they symbolize blend. Some blendings are complimentary and work well; others are discordant and difficult to integrate. When conjunctions are exact to the degree and minute, they can be confusing as they overwhelm each other’s energy. Or they can blend easily. But either way, the energies blend during a conjunction.
