Sky Log
Steven Forest

Traditional astrologers "make predictions." Often they are correct. But right or wrong, "predictions" turn you into a marionette, withthe planets holding your strings. And in my opinion, that is not a veryinspiring description of the way the cosmos works, nor a very accurate one. Youare vastly more powerful than that. You can, to a great extent, shape your ownlife. That at least is my belief. The future isn't crystallized. It's awavering, quivering web of possibilities. How will they manifest? Much dependsupon how you wield the magical wild card we call your freedom.

So, what's the use of astrology? In a nutshell, itcan help you make better choices. The planets never give a definitive answer tothe question "What will happen to me?" Instead, they ask thequestion. But they ask the question in a very specific way: "Giveneverything you are, all the bridges you've crossed, all the contracts you'vesigned, there are several possibilities for what you might do next..." Inother words, "Here's the menu. What are you having?"

Question mark.

And the question mark is the most important partof the whole inquiry, because that's where the uncertainty -- and your freedom-- lies. But the planets do even more. They offer advice. In a sense, theyrecommend certain choices over others. They seem biased toward your evolution. They often suggest that you take the less familiar path, the one that moves youinto richer fields of your own potentiality. The planets express this ratherphilosophical bias in a very concrete way. Typically, when you make a lessenergetic response to a planetary question, the results, while initiallycomfortable, rapidly turn painful. Sometimes the pain is immediate anddramatic, as in the collapse of an important relationship. Other times, it'smore subtle, as in the degeneration of life into deadening boredom and ritual.Either way, sooner or later we know you made a wrong turn somewhere.

In the pages that follow, we will be exploring thecoming months of your life from this planetary perspective. There are threeparts to the report, and any or all of them may be included here, depending onwhich have been requested. First, the big questions. In the part of the reportcalled THE INVITATION, we try to get that "mountain-top" perspectivethat enables us to make sense of the details. In THE MEANS, we turn ourattention to some secondary factors that offer suggestions, help, and supportin responding to those big questions. And finally, we'll look at the reportperiod month-by-month, day-by-day, to get some ground-level insight into THEDETAILS. Your report may be for three, six, nine, or twelve months and mayinclude any or all three sections just described. For this reason, and becausesome years in your life are astrologically more active than others, reportlength can vary quite a bit.

Throughout the following text, I'll be endeavoringto write in plain English, but if you're unfamiliar with the jargon ofastrology, you'll encounter a few words that may require definition. A"transiting" planet, for example, refers to the actual, currentposition of that planet in the sky. Sometimes the transiting planets formcritical geometric angles with the "natal" planets in the birthchart, triggering developmental questions in your life. These critical angles arecalled "aspects."

The "progressed" planets function inmuch the same way as the transiting planets, but we approach them a littledifferently. They're like a script that's been built into your birthchart. Justas we know that an oak tree will emerge from an acorn and bring forth itsleaves in season, similarly each person's birthchart contains within it theseeds of certain predictable developmental stages. Progressions spell out thosestages.

So sit back, open your mind, and engage yourheart. It's time to consider...

The Invitation

Some years loom large in our memories decades downthe road; others are blurry, easily forgotten. That universal human reality isreflected in the movements of the planets -- astrologically speaking, one yearis often far more significant than another, just as in life. Most of the reallyimportant celestial factors move rather slowly; thus, it's not unusual toexperience a time in which none of them have gone critical, when we can calmlykeep on putting one foot after the other, on "cruise control."

Well, for you this is definitely not that kind ofyear. Something truly pivotal is occurring...

Tr. Uranus is Opposite Ascendant

In effect: in progress - Dec 31, 2004
Peak Date(s): Nov 1, 2004; Nov 21, 2004

The planet Uranus is presently stirring the pot ofyour life, and that always promises a tumultuous passage, peppered with unexpecteddevelopments and encounters. Outwardly, Uranus is the wild card, bringingunpredictable and unforeseen events into the picture. Inwardly, it signals atime of accelerated individuation...that is, a time in which who you really areand what you truly want are rapidly emerging and defining themselves. A portionof what you imagined to be your identity has, in fact, little to do with you;it is a side-effect of your social training, nothing more. And, like trainingwheels on a kid's bike, you are now ready to dump it. This has an unsettlingeffect upon not only yourself, but also those around you. Often during Uranianperiods there is a distinct "changing of the guard" in our socialcircles; old relationships end, new ones appear. Claim your right to beyourself -- that's the essence of the transiting Uranus. Whatever it touches, changes. Trust the changes! Like a hard wind blowing the sand off a buriedcity, they are revealing who you actually have been all along. That's Uranus ingeneral. Specifically, Uranus is opposite your natal Ascendant: Nov 1, 2004;Nov 21, 2004.

Our initial step is to realize that the action andthe developmental invitation are manifesting in the Seventh House, for that'sthe region of your birthchart through which Uranus is currently passing. Thisinforms us that you have come to a turning point in your biography, but onewhose successful navigation depends upon your receptivity to counsel, or moresimply, your willingness to let another person influence you. "Soulmates"will appear at critical junctions. Recognize them through their resemblance toUranus, which we just described. But what's the core issue? What part of yourown life is at stake? To answer that, we turn our attention to the Ascendant, which is being invited into development by the advent of these pivotal people.

Like the rest of us, you are a complicated, paradoxical individual, full of contradictions and undercurrents. That's human. But another part of being human is that, like the rest of us, you need to getout of bed in the morning and put on a streamlined, simplified social mask thatallows you to function in the social beehive. There's no way that you can havea truly intimate relationship with every face you see in your daily life, norwould you likely want such connections. So we all keep much of what we reallyare behind our astrological Ascendant, which symbolizes that mask. Physically,it is simply the sign that was dawning in the east at the instant of yourbirth...and symbolically it represents how you "dawn" on people whodon't know you very well. When triggered by a passing transit or progression, the Ascendant signals the need to make some adjustments in the way you presentyourself in the social world, so that your outer appearance remains reasonablyaligned with who you have become inwardly. The work is superficial; which isnot to say unimportant. Often it has to do with changing how you hold yourbody, the way you speak, and the clothes you wear.

The geometric angle or "aspect" involvedin the process we are studying is, as we said, the opposition. Notsurprisingly, this suggests that the natal planet and the moving one are 180degrees apart. Tension is thus woven into the spirit of this period of yourlife. The two forces we described are polarized, which often translatesemotionally into a feeling of being damned if you do, and damned if you don't.How can you break the logjam? Recognize that any impossibilities you areexperiencing in this area probably arise from an incomplete or biased perspective. The opposition aspect always calls for a leap into a new, more accepting levelof consciousness. Something is missing in your view of the problem -- and thatmissing link (here's the corker...) lies in the wisdom embodied by those peopleor situations that are now antagonizing you. It's not that they're right andyou're wrong; only that the truth that can carry you beyond this impasse liessomewhere between the two positions.

Tr. Pluto is Square Moon

In effect: Dec 3, 2004 - continuing
Peak Date(s): Dec 30, 2004

The planet Pluto is shading the spirit of yourlife nowadays, and in a nutshell that means that you are being challenged toheal. Pluto, as you probably know, is the lord of the underworld...or to put itmore succinctly, the God of Hell. And it is disquieting, to say the least, toimagine that this deity is currently dining at your table. But take heart! The"hell" inside you needs airing out, and that is essentially what thistransit is about. You've been hurt. You've been used, abused, rejected, exploited, lied to...the whole sad litany. And, like the rest of us, you'vesometimes had to keep the proverbial stiff upper lip and simply get on withyour life. But where does all that hurt go? Down deep into the unconsciousmind, where it stays until you're clear enough and strong enough to handleresurrecting it and really going beyond it. Pluto's action is to bring upburied emotions. Its tone is intense. It often feels moody and confrontative. It can destabilize and disrupt the areas of your life that it's touching. Thebest course is to resolve to go deeper and deeper, truth above kindness andresolution over comfort. It's not easy, but in the end the energizing andempowering of the psyche make the process worthwhile. What is Pluto actually doing?Currently it is square your natal Moon. Although Pluto is a slow-moving planetand usually unfolds its story over a period of two or three years, during theperiod of this report the action peaks Dec 30, 2004.

First we must recognize that the action and thedevelopmental pressures are rooted in the Fourth House, for that's the regionof your birthchart through which Pluto is currently passing. Immediately thatrealization places our attention on two fundamental areas: The first is yourhome and family, which may well be making their needs felt now in the"key" of Pluto. And the second, often confused by the first, is yourown happiness and that deep soul-feeling inside yourself to which you must betrue if your life is to stay on course. Under this kind of stimulation, aperson often benefits from considering his or her deepest beliefs and attitudesfrom a conventional psycho-therapeutic perspective -- which in essence is tosay, "Figure out what mom and dad taught you," and drop what is nolonger consistent with your own course. But what's the issue? What part of yourown life is at stake? To answer that, we turn our attention to the Moon, whichis being invited into development by these familial and emotional pressures.

Astrology is the basic "programminglanguage" of human consciousness. That may seem like a bold claim, butit's easily tested and proven. Pick someone who imagines he or she knowsnothing at all about astrology. Ask them what the Moon means. After aninitially dumbfounded look, you'll probably get an answer such as, "Idunno...feelings?" Which is quite correct. The mind naturally associatesthe Moon with darkness, with moonlight...and therefore with ghosts and romance, magic and tears, vulnerability and exhilaration: emotions. Deep inside us allis a subjective realm. Love and hate, joy and sorrow, dwell there. So do ourdaydreams and our creativity. If we could "average" a person's moodover a lifetime, we'd have an excellent profile of his or her Moon. When theMoon is triggered into development by a passing transit or progression, yourinner life is stimulated. You feel stirred up. Powerful currents of emotionalenergy, for weal or woe, are released into your psyche. The very basis ofhappiness for you is evolving.

Maintaining a healthy flow of the energies of theMoon, always good for you, is especially crucial to your closest humanrelationships: marriage, profound friendship, long-term sexual bonds. Why?Because in Lincoln, NE at the moment of your birth the Moon occupied yourSeventh House, the traditional "House of Marriage." Two lines ofreasoning emerge here. The first is that by bringing the flavor of the Mooninto your intimate bonds, you shape love in a lasting, more meaningful way foryourself. The second is that your natural partners are themselves people withthe spirit of the Moon. Relating deeply to those whose natures are too farremoved from that tone and style is simply not your path. However we look atyour situation, intimate connections are clearly a front-burner issue rightnow.

The aspect connected with the astrological processwe're investigating here is the square, as we have seen. The square, traditionally characterized as an unfortunate aspect, describes a geometricangle of 90 degrees between the natal planet and the moving trigger. To callsquares "bad" is misleading. More accurately, they are compelling. Inthe area of your life we're considering, a terrific friction has arisen. It'snot comfortable, but it is an extremely effective motivator. The trick in usingthe energy creatively lies in moving decisively -- determining precisely whatyou want, claiming it, and letting the rest go. A season of tough choices isupon you. Regarding the process we described in the previous paragraphs, thereare costs involved in all the courses available to you...the most costly, forall concerned, being the course of indecision.

What we've considered above is the underpinning of this phase of your life. It's truly elemental material -- the stuff of which milestones are made. There's no guarantee that astrological forces of such magnitude will beactivated for everyone all the time. What follows is an analysis of someslightly less portentous dimensions of your astrological picture...lessportentous, but still powerful enough to qualify as part of this year's"Invitation."

Try to see what follows in the light of all that'sgone before...

Tr. Uranus aligns with the Seventh House cusp

Date: Nov 1, 2004; Nov 21, 2004 - Continuing

Uranus came up earlier in this report. Now weencounter it again. As you may recall, this planet represents the "wildcard" in life, and often correlates with unexpected events. Behind theroller-coaster ride, the real issue is your ability to claim your trueindividuality, even if that involves destabilizing certain aspects of yourexisting circumstances. Uranus currently is conjunct your natal Seventh Housecusp. The action peaks Nov 1, 2004; Nov 21, 2004.

The Seventh House -- we pondered this houseearlier in the report. It's turned on in another way as well: Uranus iscurrently entering it. To refresh your memory, partnerships are the focus here.Under Seventh House stimulation, new people appear in your life and oldrelationship contracts come up for review. Everything hinges upon your capacityto recognize your natural allies, and to let yourself be affected by them. Onehint: those natural allies are of the nature of Uranus, as we just describedit.

The Means

If you happen to have a cold on the day you winthe lottery, will that taint your memory of the big event? Probably not. Tenyears later, you will have forgotten your runny nose. Ten minutes later, morelikely.

Life and memory work that way. We prioritizecertain kinds of events, experiencing them more vividly and remembering themfar longer than the trivial and the predictable. The details of a typicalMonday morning aren't going to last as long in the memory banks as images ofyour moment of glory or your darkest hour.

In exactly the same way, not all astrologicalevents have the same impact. What we have considered so far are allfirst-string milestones in your life. The rest of what we'll be considering isless central -- but that's not to say unimportant. What follows is a set ofsupplementary transits and progressions, presented chronologically. They're notquite as profound in their implications as what we've seen, but they're notwithout emotional and existential consequences. If what we have explored in theprevious pages can be viewed as an evolutionary invitation, then, to that loftyend, what follows is....

"The Means"

As you'll see, each of these events stands assignificant in its own right. But their deepest meanings lie in the way theyinteract with what we've considered in the pages above, enhancing and sometimescomplicating the broader developmental patterns.

Cards on the table: you can skim the next severalpages and, I think, learn some things about the coming months that will proveprophetic...and more importantly, helpful. But the real magic lies in puttingall the pieces together, synthesizing them in your heart into an emotionalwhole -- just like you've done with, say, memories of a special summer longago. No computer can do that for you.

Your own creativity, your own reflections on thematerial we're covering, your own translations, additions, corrections, amendments, and meditations -- these are what make the difference.

Let's continue.

Tr. Jupiter is Sextile Pluto
In effect: Oct 4, 2004 - Oct 13, 2004
Peak Date(s): Oct 9, 2004

The planet Jupiter is currently coloring yourcircumstances. Before we say exactly how, let's attempt to understand the moregeneral significance of any Jupiter event. Essentially, this is a call torecognize an opportunity. Traditional astrologers view it more starkly -- tothem, it is simply the planet of luck. And that is often the case: the toastdoes tend to land butter-side up when Jupiter is crossing sensitiveterritories. But the real, evolutionary meaning lies deeper. One key is thatJupiter is future-oriented...it is concerned with bright, unexploredpossibilities. Stripped to its bones, Jupiter always asks one primary question:how have you been underestimating yourself? Its transits signal a time when newopportunities come into existence, but to seize them you must recognize thatyou deserve them, that you are capable of rising to them, and that old dealsand compromises are finished. Trust yourself, have faith in life, and go forit: that's the spirit of Jupiter. How is it affecting you? Jupiter is sextile yournatal Pluto: Oct 9, 2004.

Let's first understand that the action is in theSecond House, for that's where Jupiter is currently passing through your chart. And what does that signify? That the circumstances driving your development, atleast in terms of this particular configuration, have to do withself-confidence...but not simply in the conventional psychological way. Herethe self-confidence -- or lack of it -- is rooted in the quality andappropriateness of your resource-base. To use this time well, act in the spiritof Jupiter, as we just described it, and claim what you need for your journey, whether this be money, connections, equipment, or skills. But what's the deeperissue? What part of your own life now hinges on your gathering the right tools, funds, and skills? To answer that, we turn our attention to Pluto, which isbeing invited into development by this quickening of your dignity,self-reliance, and aplomb.

Everyone has fears. Everyone has shames andwounded places. In you and me and everyone else, there are marks left by thetimes we've been lied to, abandoned, used, or exploited. It's not the world'scheeriest subject, but turning away only empowers those Plutonian hurts, givesthem more latitude to influence your life. When your natal Pluto is triggeredby a passing transit or progression, dark shadows are stirred within you. It'sa signal that forgotten, unprocessed, or repressed elements of your personalhistory are asking to be investigated. The procedure requires intensity, honesty, and emotional courage. The results are worth the effort. If you workwell with these energies, you emerge stronger, clearer, and often with renewedinspiration. If you hesitate, it's not unusual for the old wounding dramas tobe re-enacted in your life.

While the energies of Pluto that we just describedare obviously positive qualities for everyone, they play an especially personalpart in your own well-being, looming larger and larger in your life as youmature. That's because Pluto lies in your natal Eleventh House, which pertainsto your future, to your healthiest priorities, and to your most sustainablelong-term strategies, all of which are well-described by that planet. Under thecurrent stimulation of Pluto, an evolution in your goals is occurring, renderingsome old dreams obsolete or complete as new, sometimes unexpected desires andvalues begin to make themselves felt. It is a season of re-orientation.

When Jupiter gets hooked up with Pluto, think bigand claim a victory. One is available, if you move decisively and know exactlywhat you really want. And therein lies the rub. All of us experiencehumiliating losses, insults, and defeats in the course of life. As you adapt toliving with them, an attitude of disempowerment or futility can creep in. Conqueringthat mind-set is the real aim here. The truth is that psychologically you needa triumph now -- and synchronistically, the universe is ready to cooperate.

The aspect pervading the event we've justconsidered is, as we observed, a sextile. Technically, that refers to ageometric angle of 60 degrees between the natal planet and the moving one.Sextiles are traditionally viewed as "good" aspects. Certainly, they're exciting. There is a mood of eagerness regarding the process we'reexploring here -- and that's glorious, provided you're wary of the excessiveimpulsiveness that sextiles sometimes breed. In any case, the spinning wheel ofcircumstances can be counted on to provide some fortuitous, unexpectedopportunities for you during this period. You'll have to be quick to seizethem, though. They're real, but they're short-lived.

Pr. Venus is Sextile Sun

In effect: in progress - continuing
Peak Date(s): Oct 4, 2004

"Love." What a word. Eskimos, it issaid, distinguish two hundred different kinds of snow, each with its own name.Perhaps we should take a cue from them and cash in our word "love,"replacing it with dozens of more specific concepts. It would still baffle us,inspire us, give us sleepless nights -- but at least we might then be able tocommunicate with each other more clearly. The love an infant feels for his orher mother...the consuming, volatile love of our teen years...the affectionbetween old friends...the quiet affinity between those who have beenwell-married for decades: why do we put them all under the dominion of the samesyllable? They're certainly different human experiences. Love evolves. Ourcapacity to feel that emotion takes on new resonances as we mature, and itdrops old resonances.

Astrologers measure that evolution through themotions of the Progressed Venus. When it comes to a sensitive zone in yourbirthchart, you are invited to open yourself to new dimensions of humanrelationships. Typically, the passage of progressed Venus over a critical pointcoincides with visible alterations in our sphere of intimacy: friendships, business or creative partnerships, romantic bonds...all come to crossroads.Sometimes they come to endings. Other times they slough off deadening ritualsand experience renewal, even renaissance. Many times such Venusian events mark the arrival of new people in ourlives, people whose destinies are entwined with our own. Always, though, behindthe outward relationship events, there is a deeper layer of meaning in theseprogressions: you are now asked to deepen the way you love, to love with yetanother dimension of your being, to call still another part of your soul intothe service of love. And, as always, it's possible to miss the point, squandering the Venusian force in wheel-spinning romances or soap-opera relatedinterpersonal dramas.

Let's start unraveling the symbolism byrecognizing that the action and developmental invitation are most evident inthat part of your life we call the Eighth House, for that's the region of yourbirthchart through which Venus is currently passing. Typically, such anastrological event suggests a period of moody intensity as old hurt feelingscome up for healing and regeneration. It is probable that you have someone inyour life now, be it a bed partner or a dear friend, with whom you can speakfrankly about difficult emotional topics...and can do so in the spirit ofVenus, as we just described it. Often the person is himself or herself of thatsame planetary nature, or is at least going through a time in which that kind offorce is making itself felt. What is less certain is whether you will castpoliteness aside and actually broach the sensitive subjects. But what's thecore issue? What part of your own life is being affected by these unconsciousbiases? To answer that, we turn our attention to the Sun, which is beinginvited into development as these inner pressures mount.

How is the progressed Venus currently touchingyou? It is sextile your natal Sun: Oct 4, 2004. In thinking about this, remember that progressions are slow-moving events and that the action simplypeaks then; it will be in effect throughout the period of this report.

The Sun, as astronomers tell us, is the center ofthe solar system. Everything spins around it. With its enormous gravity, theSun holds the entire system together. In a parallel way, the astrological Sunrepresents the gravitational center of your personality. Your ego. Youridentity. The part of you that gets up in the morning and, without even asingle sip of coffee, knows its name, rank, and serial number. Those sameastronomers inform us that without the Sun's radiant energy, life as weunderstand it would cease to exist. Again, astrological meaning follows astronomicalfact: the Sun symbolizes that spark of life inside you, your elementalvitality. Enthusiasm, energy, recuperative powers -- all these are solarthemes. Thus, when the natal Sun is triggered in an important way, two criticalquestions come up for review: who are you, and what really makes you want toget out of bed in the morning?

Sustaining steady contact with the energy of theSun, always good for you, now figures especially prominently in one criticaldimension of your life: the Sixth House, which is where the Sun lies in yourbirthchart. What themes or issues come to the fore here? Responsibilities, duties, and the fulfillment of your commitments. But before we start soundingtoo much like the Boy Scout Handbook, let's remember that the pivotal issue ofthe Sixth House lies in recognizing the exact nature of your properobligations, and not letting yourself be cowed into signing up for boring,self-sacrificial martyrdoms that are none of your business anyway. Clarifyingthe exact location of the thin line between humility and humiliation is on thefront burner for you now. One rule of thumb: when your duties have the flavorof the Sun, you're on the right track.

When the Sun interacts with Venus, do your best tomake yourself attractive...but a lot more is called for here than a long talkwith the bathroom mirror. "Attractiveness" is as much personal as itis physical; it is linked to courtesy, the expression of interest in others, and a general graciousness of demeanor. Why act that way now in particular?Simple: you've come to a point in your life in which input from another personis essential, and if you want to link with the proper partners, it doesn't hurtto do a little advertising.

The two factors, as we mentioned, are linked by asextile -- traditionally seen as a "harmonious" or "mutuallyenhancing" aspect, often full of fast-paced events and emotionalstimulation.

Tr. Saturn is Sextile Neptune

In effect: Oct 7, 2004 - Dec 10, 2004
Peak Date(s): sometime after the report period.

The planet Saturn is currently casting a graylight on your circumstances -- but is it the bleak gray of sorrow or the clear, comforting gray of wisdom and digested experience? That's the choice. Saturn isclassically viewed as the "bad" planet, the "GreaterMalefic." Don't believe it! Used correctly, its transits can bring dignityand self-respect. Essentially, Saturn is about maturity. The part of your lifethat's being touched by the Saturnian energies needs to grow up...which,despite the lies we're all told, is not a process one mysteriously completes onone's twenty-first birthday. There is an area of your life where you havesimply outgrown yourself, at least inwardly. The task now is to adjust youroutward circumstances to reflect the maturity you've already attainedpsychically and invisibly. It is a material problem, not fundamentally apsychological one. To succeed, there is first a need to face reality squarely, even if it's unsavory. Then to make a hard choice...that is, to reach anemotional bottom line and not be crippled by your awareness of the ambiguitiesin your situation. And finally, in a spirit of commitment, persistence, andself-discipline, to claim those circumstances in your life which reflect thehard inner work you've been doing over the last few years. That's Saturn ingeneral. Specifically, Saturn is sextile your natal Neptune: sometime after thereport period..

Currently Saturn is navigating your EleventhHouse, suggesting that your own circumstances and possibilities are currentlytied into larger developments involving organizations, committees, or your"crowd." This inevitably involves the use of a certain politicaladroitness on your part and the capacity to forge and nurture coalitions andalliances, even if they're just among three or four people. But behind thegroup dynamics, there's a deeper layer. What are your priorities? What do youreally want? Certainly, those desires are currently evolving and their motionis in the direction of Saturn, as we just described it.  In a nutshell: know what you want andchoose your allies accordingly. But what's the core issue? What part of yourown life is at stake? To answer that, we turn our attention to Neptune, whichis being invited into development by these strategic alliances.

Close your eyes. Don't think of anything at all.Just be aware of all that infinite, dark space. Welcome to Neptune. In yournatal chart, it represents the part of you that knows how to enter trance, tomeditate, or to "space out." Everybody's got one, and everybody experiencesthat part of their consciousness from time to time. When triggered by transitsor progressions, Neptune asks you to let go, to allow material to enter yourmind uncensored and unstructured. It's more akin to feeling than thinking, butneither word captures it perfectly. Dreaming is the closest analogy...a sort offree-associative state in which your own mind works like an unpredictable movietheater. Why bother? Because such an astrological event signals that yourunconscious mind or, if you prefer, your soul has an important message and istrying to get in touch with you.

Good things in general come your way when you makea positive response to Neptune. But one area has always been prominent in thatregard -- the Second House, where Neptune lies in your birthchart. There, inthe area of providing yourself with a real basis for self-confidence, theoptimal use of that energy is most critical. Sometimes it comes down to seeingto it that you have enough money. Other times, provisions, proper tools, oreven skills are the focus. Always the key here is to recognize the intimatelink between personal resources and personal assurance.

When hard-headed Saturn is stirred into the samepot with visionary Neptune, a season of brain-storming has arrived. A happyconfluence now exists between creative imagination and shrewd practicality.Keeping them in balance is the art. You'll have some great ideas -- but not asgreat as they may at first seem. And you'll also see some formidable obstacles-- but not as insurmountable as you may fear. There is a middle course betweenoptimism and pessimism. It's called visionary realism. Practice it!

The two factors, as we mentioned, are linked by asextile -- traditionally seen as a "harmonious" or "mutuallyenhancing" aspect, often full of fast-paced events and emotionalstimulation.

Tr. Saturn is Sextile Midheaven

In effect: Oct 19, 2004 - Nov 27, 2004
Peak Date(s): sometime after the report period.

Saturn played a role earlier in this account. Nowit emerges again, in a new way. To refresh your memory, Saturn is ultimatelythe planet of maturity. It always places a strong emphasis upon hard work, decisive choices, and persistence. Saturn currently is sextile your natalMidheaven. The energies crest sometime after the report period..

Currently Saturn is navigating familiar territory-- your Eleventh House, which we discussed earlier. This, to refresh yourmemory, is the house of group dynamics, tying your personal affairs to largerdevelopments involving organizations or coalitions -- your "friends"in the widest sense. To make the right moves, you'll need to know exactly whatyou want. Those desires, just to help you separate the wheat from all thechaff, are now in the spirit and direction of Saturn, as we described it above.Getting what you want is the difficulty, as is generally the case in life. Inthe present environment, to succeed you'll need to form strategic alliances, often with people of the nature of Saturn. However, the core issue -- the partof your life that's at stake here -- is represented by the Midheaven, which isbeing invited into development during this time of the joining of destinies.

Doctor, lawyer, Indian chief -- we all play somekind of role in our community. Sometimes you're paid for it; sometimes you doit for the principle of the matter. The public "hat" you wear issymbolized by the natal midheaven. Physically, it's the highest point in yourbirthchart, and it corresponds to the most outward, obvious dimensions of yourlife: your profession, your status, your social role. When it is stimulated bya transit or a progression, you are advised of some impending evolution orrevolution in your style of hat, so to speak. Much depends on the nature of theprogressed or transiting planet, but certainly some adjustments must be made inyour outward life to reflect more adequately those inner developments whichhave already taken place.

The two factors, as we mentioned, are linked by asextile -- traditionally seen as a "harmonious" or "mutuallyenhancing" aspect, often full of fast-paced events and emotionalstimulation.

Tr. Jupiter is Trine Sun

In effect: Nov 11, 2004 - Nov 22, 2004
Peak Date(s): Nov 16, 2004

Jupiter figured earlier in this analysis. Now wemeet it again. As you may recall, this is the planet of possibilities and theseizing of opportunities. Jupiter currently is trine your natal Sun. The actionpeaks Nov 16, 2004.

Let's first understand that the action is in theSecond House, for that's where Jupiter is currently located in your chart. We've met this house before. As you may recall, it has to do withself-confidence, especially when that confidence is rooted in your personalresources -- and that means more than just money. The time has come to act inthe spirit of Jupiter, as we just described it, and to claim the skills andmaterial you need. But what's the point? What are the real questions? Theanswer lies with the Sun, which is being invited into development during thistime of solidification and consolidation in your life.

The natal Sun -- that, as we have seen, refers tothe very core of your being: your identity.

Your Sixth House held our attention for a while earlierin these pages; now we see it making itself felt again. You have an inherentdesire to be helpful and competent, and you express it best when you find waysto give people around you "gifts" of the nature of the Sun, as wejust described it. That part of your nature is currently in the spotlight, sooffer yourself and your gifts to those who need them. You'll grow wiser, andthey'll be happier.

When the Sun interacts with Jupiter, claim someapplause for yourself. Healthy pride and dignity are at stake here, and they'rehard to sustain without receiving some appreciation. It may just come to you;but if not, then don't be shy about asking for it...and one of the best ways todo that is to insist upon a victory, the more colorful the better. The good newsis that under this kind of astrological configuration, such a victory is infact quite available to you now.

As we said, the aspect involved in the event wejust described is the trine, which refers to a 120 degree angle between thenatal planet and the moving one. Trines are traditionally viewed as positiveaspects, and in fact they generally do correlate with opportunities.Additionally, their existence implies that support is available to you, if youare willing to move to claim it. And therein lies the rub with the so-called"good" aspects. They're not very dynamic. Just as pain is a morepowerful motivator than contentment, the trick with trines lies in takingadvantage of them before the wheel turns and their potential vanishes. With regardto the developments we described in the previous few paragraphs: a door is nowopen, a red carpet rolled out...but don't count on everything remaining thatway forever.

Tr. Jupiter is Sextile Mars

In effect: Dec 26, 2004 - continuing
Peak Date(s): sometime after the report period.

Jupiter figured earlier in this analysis. Now wemeet it again. As you may recall, this is the planet of possibilities and theseizing of opportunities. Jupiter currently is sextile your natal Mars. Theaction peaks sometime after the report period..

The answerlies with Mars, which is being invited into development during this time ofsolidification and consolidation in your life.

Sheer animal vitality -- that's Mars. In yournatal chart, it represents your boldness and your pluckiness: what gets your bloodflowing. Or boiling. All passions are linked to Mars. Anger and your ability todefend your boundaries are part of the picture. So is your inner fire -- yourenthusiasm, your intensity, your sexual desire. When triggered by a passingtransit or progression, Mars often signals a "go for it" situationdeveloping in your life, but to make the best of it, you'll need to be braveand assertive. Such transits or progressions can also warn you of upcomingbattles, and in general it's wiser to seize the initiative rather thansurrender your power to the whimsies of circumstance.

Maintaining a healthy relationship with the forceof Mars is particularly central to your well-being in one key area: the FourthHouse, which is where Mars happened to be located when you took your firstbreath in Lincoln, NE. There, in the domain of home and hearth and also ofemotional and psychological processes, a strong response to this planet forgesin you a clear sense of who you are and what you want. Happiness has differentsources for different people. For you, much of it comes from experiencesconnected to Mars, as we just portrayed it. Claim them! Always sound advice --but how you go about claiming them is currently evolving, partly as a result ofchanging external circumstances.

When Jupiter energies interact with Mars energies, opportunity coincides with the need for assertiveness. There is something herefor you to claim; but to succeed, you'll have to be brave. A "papertiger" figures somehow in the situation: something that's not nearly asscary as it may initially appear.

The two factors, as we mentioned, are linked by asextile -- traditionally seen as a "harmonious" or "mutuallyenhancing" aspect, often full of fast-paced events and emotionalstimulation.

The Details

In the mood for Mardi Gras? If you live inChicago, it helps to know that New Orleans lies to the south. Head west or eastand you'll never arrive . . .

What we've done in the previous pages is to showyou the direction to New Orleans. We've looked at the big astrological themesthat are affecting you this year . . .

As a reminder, at the beginning of our analysis ofeach month's events we'll make reference to any major configurations coveredpreviously which happen to be reaching peaks of intensity then -- and pleaserecall that some of them will have more than a single peak during the reportperiod. There won't be any more analysis; just an allusion to the events so youcan go back and review the earlier material, and see the patterns of the monthin the light of the year's heavier transits and progressions.

Please remember that the fleeting, oftenforgettable influences we discuss in the following pages must always draw theirreal meaning from the far more monumental events we've already described. A"discussion with the boss," for example, is going to take onparticular significance during a month when your whole career is up for grabs!

These minor transits unfold quickly. It's a rareweek that doesn't contain at least a few. A report that discussed them all inthe kind of microscopic detail we've applied to the major events would beseveral inches thick. In order to cover the daily astrological kaleidoscopewithin the practical limitations of the space available, we've resorted toproducing capsulized one-sentence nuggets that compress a lot of informationinto a few words. So, slow down, shift gears, and let them wash over you. Thinkof these images more as daily meditations than as the kind of full-blown explanationsto which you've gotten accustomed in the previous sections of SKYLOG.

One brief reminder: remember that manyastrological events have not one but several peaks of intensity, so you mayfind a given "Invitation" or "Means" coming up severaltimes in the pages that follow.

Even minor astrological events commonly have animpact over several days. In the following month-by-month analysis, configurations are listed chronologically according to the days they"peak" -- but don't take that date narrowly. The most colorful eventsand profoundest realizations might easily occur a day or two later or earlier.

Tr. Moon enters Twelfth House

The Moon in a month passes through all twelvehouses of your chart. In so doing, it correlates with the passing whimsies ofmood. One afternoon you're bright and cheery, the following morning you'reblue...but energetic again after lunch. It doesn't amount to much, and it's notreally very important in practical terms -- with one exception: the passage ofthe Moon through the Twelfth House. The mythological Mercury is the "Messenger ofthe Gods." The same is true of the transiting Mercury, which speeds aroundyour chart, prompting conversations, dialogs, and sermons, both outgoing andincoming. It triggers the arrival of letters, faxes, and phone calls, andprovokes the weaving of new data into your viewpoint. When it arrives at asensitive point, your task is to listen, to ask questions, and to shareintelligence.

Mercury aligns with your Fourth House cusp, thevery bottom of your birthchart, Nov 03, 2004. Claim renewal for yourself now, and hold quietcounsel with yourself. Don't let the pressure of events drive you faster thanis good for you; you don't need rest so much now as active silence. Vision isrising up in you, if you let it. To attune yourself to this new enlivening, getaway from society; be alone, or be with people in your own inner circle -- yourreal "family" -- and do it in the spirit of Mercury. That will putyou in the proper attitude of receptivity.

Nov 19, 2004  -  Tr. Sunopposes Midheaven

The transiting Sun is like a huge, dumb battery.Whatever it touches, it electrifies -- but never for very long or very deeply. That's simply because it's a fast-moving factor, never staying anywhere longenough to develop true depth or complexity of meaning. In a year, it circuitsthe chart once...which leaves it only a few days to spend in each of yourchart's many sensitive zones. Whatever it touches, however, is temporarilypushed into action. And sometimes, if more serious astro-psychological energieshave been building or brewing in that area of your life, the Sun's transit overthat point might just be the trigger that sets big wheels turning. The criticalpoint is that the Sun represents your ego, and when it collides with sensitiveterritories you need to act accordingly: not "egocentrically," butwith an awareness of your rights, your needs, and your desires.

Sun aligns with your Fourth House cusp, the verybottom of your birthchart, Nov 19, 2004. As you might imagine, this point, being buried, represents inward, psychological experience, and often putsemphasis on the home or family. Claim renewal for yourself now, and hold quietcounsel with yourself. Don't let the pressure of events drive you faster thanis good for you; you don't need rest so much now as active silence. Vision isrising up in you, if you let it. To attune yourself to this new enlivening, getaway from society; be alone, or be with people in your own inner circle -- yourreal "family" -- and do it in the spirit of Sun. That will put you inthe proper attitude of receptivity.

Nov 30, 2004 at 08:09 AM  - Mercury turns Retrograde

Three, maybe four times in the course of a year, the planet Mercury spends three weeks or so going backwards in the sky, aperiod we call Mercury Retrograde. Practicality sometimes intervenes, but tothe extent that you can arrange it, you are better off if you can avoid signinganything important during this period, buying anything mechanical (unless itsfailure would be of trivial consequence), initiating travel, or attemptingsignificant communications by phone or mail. This, of course, is a lot to ask;and sticking to it too firmly starts to verge on Cosmic Paranoia. Still, thereis a heightened tendency for objects, messages, and plans to go awry during thisRetrograde time. Sometimes a little patience exercised now will make your lifea lot easier in the long run. If steps simply must be taken, it doesn't meaneverything is doomed to failure...just keep duplicates, have backups,double-check everything, and be prepared for petty annoyances. The firstappearance of a Retrograde Mercury during the period of this report occurs Nov30, 2004 at 08:09 AM. Those conditions persist until Mercury again goes"Direct" sometime after the report period..
